Nail Your Virtual Interview

Mastering the Art of Virtual Interviews

Being intentional about creating a lasting and positive impression is just as important in a virtual interview as it is in an in-person interview. Below are some common reminders to help you excel in your next virtual interview.

  • Familiarize yourself with the interview platform. Instead of scrambling at the last minute, gain confidence by learning how to use and set up the platform ahead of time!

  • Dress appropriately. Your appearance still matters, even on camera! Make sure you look presentable and appropriate for the job.

  • Show up early. Punctuality leaves a good first impression. Arrive a few minutes early to prepare and show professionalism.

  • Angle the camera. You should capture more than just your face but not below the elbows. A good general rule of thumb is to sit an arm’s length away from your camera for the perfect distance!

  • Avoid distractions. Go to a place with minimal background noise, good lighting, and use a simple or blurred background.

  • Ensure your camera is still. Use a laptop, computer, or phone stand to keep the camera stable in position.

  • Be prepared with resume. Keep your resume in front of you to quickly reference details about previous roles.

  • Take notes. Demonstrate that you are engaged, paying attention, and ready with questions.
